Thematic Information & Advocacy Campaign Devoted to Annual Family Planning Week – 2017

This year traditional Reproductive Health and Family Planning Week will take place in Ukraine in the period of May 9 -15.

On WHFP initiative and under its support members of the All-Ukrainian Coalition on Reproductive Health and Family Planning, representing 40 NGOs from 20 Ukrainian regions, will conduct a wave of awareness-raising activities to support Ukrainian week of family planning and reproductive health in the form of numerous thematic activities for different target groups in Kyiv and oblasts, cities, towns and villages of Ukraine. The detailed information about regional events please find in the next issue of RH Bulletin, which is under the development and will be distributed electronically early June 2017. Advocacy Manual – New Publication Prepared by WHFP Experts

WHFP experts have developed new publication – “Reproductive Health & Family Planning: Advocacy Guide”. Manual contains practical tips and examples of advocacy campaigns, methods and tools for effective work with target audiences, principles of effective media communications, samples of information materials. The publication sums up the experience of the USAID Project "Reproductive Health in Ukraine", being implemented by the Foundation for 3.5 years and successfully completed at the end of March 2017, as well as the experience of the All-Ukrainian Coalition on Reproductive Health and Family Planning in mobilization of civil society, Ukrainian authorities, international and national expert organizations. Manual is prepared based on the materials of the International Planned Parenthood Federation / IPPF, which is represented by WHFP in Ukraine since 2007. WHFP starts implementation of the 3-rd phase of the UNFPA-funded project

Within the 3rd phase of the UNFPA-funded Project, WHFP continues activities in response to acute humanitarian needs affected by armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, prevention of the gender-based violence and providing access of the most vulnerable women and adolescent girls to reproductive health services. During this project phase WHFP experts will conduct consultations to health service providers of the Emergency SRH Aid Units, opened during Project Phase 2 for women and adolescent girls – victims of physical and sexual violence in eastern Ukraine.

It’s also planned to publish and distribute the series of educational brochures among medical specialists, i.p.:

  1. Family Planning & Medical Care in Case of Unwanted Pregnancy
  2. Assistance in case of violence
  3. Sexually Transmitted Infections and AIDs

WHFP experts presented the Right to Love Program at the International Conference on Sexual Education Issues in Berlin

On May 15-16, 2017 international conference "Sexual education: lessons and prospects for WHO European Region" was held in Berlin. The event was attended by representatives of ministries and NGO experts from 38 countries of Europe and Central Asia. Conference was organized by Federal Agency for Health Education in accordance with the recently approved "Action Plan for the Protection of Sexual & Reproductive Health: To Achieve Sustainable Development Goals in Europe by 2030 - Without Leaving Anyone Out of Attention".

Ukraine was represented by Tatiana Slobodian, project coordinator of the International Federation of Planned Parenthood (IPPF) in Ukraine, Iryna Skorbun - monitoring and evaluation expert of the Woman Health & Family Planning Charity Foundation, and Angelina Sardaryan - young leader, representative of "Teenergizer" Association of Teenagers & Youth.

During one of the conference thematic sessions Iryna Skorbun presented "The Right to Love" training program designed for people with mental disabilities, which was highly appreciated by experts from other countries. In addition, the conference provided an opportunity to build the network and strengthen partnership with key experts in sexual education area, including representatives of the WHO European Office, UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education and other organizations.

Members of the All-Ukrainian Coalition on Reproductive Health & Family Planning joined regional activities to mark Annual Week of Family Planning & Reproductive Health

In Ukraine, a wave of awareness-raising activities to support Ukrainian week of family planning and reproductive health, held this year from 9th to 14th May, was organized on the initiative of the Woman Health & Family Planning Foundation in partnership with 20 regional NGOs - members of the All-Ukrainian Coalition on Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the form of numerous thematic activities for different target groups in Kyiv and oblasts.

In particular, FP Week was actively celebrated in Berdychiv and region, Vinnitsa, city of Dnipro and Novomoskovsk of Dnipropetrovsk oblast, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Lutsk, Melitopol, Odesa, Sumy and Shostka of Sumy region, Ternopil, Uzhgorod, Kherson and Gola Prystan, Nova Kakhovka and other towns and villages of Kherson oblast; in Khmelnytsky and Kamyanets-Podil’sky, Chernivtsi and Chernihiv. Members of the Coalition in cooperation with partners - governmental and non-governmental organizations - conducted thematic competitions, quests and quizzes, lectures, workshops, street art action, literary exhibitions, round tables. Besides, participants received thematic newsletters, brochures, training materials developed and traditionally provided by WHFP Foundation.

For the first time AVON Co provides grant assistance to regional public health facilities to combat breast cancer in Ukraine

As part of "Together Against Breast Cancer" Charity Program AVON in Ukraine Company in partnership with WHFP Foundation announced the provision of mini-grants (totally of 625 000 UAH) for regional state oncology centers. These grants will be used by medical institutions to implement the breast cancer early diagnosis and screening programs with the use of mammography. Winners of the national competition were selected by expert council, being represented by national leading oncologists, radiologists, health sector managers and civic activists – breast cancer survivors. The following regional state oncology centers – competition winners - will receive grant assistance:
  1. Lviv State Oncology Regional Center of Treatment and Diagnostic;
  2. Sumy Oblast Clinical Oncology Center;
  3. Kherson Oblast Oncology Center;
  4. Cherkassy Oblast Oncology Center;
  5. Chernigiv Oblast Oncology Center.
